This is the morning report. No sugar coating here. Team of doctors just rounded and there are many things they are watching. Bottom line is the poor kidney function. Part of this relates to the long time on the HeartWare. With the kidney damage he has sustained over the 512 days, his kidney's are having a tough time recovering. When this happens, his right heart ventricle struggles which causes the 'CVP' or Central Venus Pressure to increase. They have increased and added a few meds to help support his body. Main goal today is to keep him lightly sedated, support body with various IV's, and wait for his kidney's to kick in. They used the word dialysis, but that is definitely a last resort.
Our good friend, Sondra Zenger is taking the kids to Great America today to get them a break from the emotional roller coaster. That would have been pretty tough on them to sit here and watch their struggling little brother. Megan was really struggling earlier this morning as Gage was trying to move and communicate. She and the rest of the kids feel so bad for their little brother. Meg was wanting to get back to Oregon for the track meet and the halibut feed, but now she and the rest of the kids just want to stay by Gage's side.
Gage does wake up occasionally for brief moments. Best thing Stacy and I can do is be here when he wakes up, hold his hand, and rub a small wet sponge in is mouth. The #1 thing the kids want when waking up with a hose down their throat is water, their mouth's are so dry. No plan today in taking out the ventilator. This was the reason Gage was NOT excited to get his transplant.
That is really it for now. I know we all want good news, and good news is coming, just not yet. It will come, he will pull out of this, just not yet.
May do another live Facebook later if he perks up a bit.
